One to Beam Up

James Doohan In what his family says is his final wish, some of James Doohan remains will be sent into space. Better known as Scotty on the original Star Trek series, James will finally get to go where only few have gone before. A few grams of Doohan’s ashes will be launched into space, following Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry. Whose ashes were launched into orbit in 1991. From there the aluminum container which holds the ashes will orbit the Earth until gravity pulls it into the atmosphere and it burns up.

Doom Movie?

Doom The Movie LogoOver 11 years ago the original “Doom” was launched by developer ID Software and last year they released “Doom 3″. You’d think after releasing 3 blockbuster Doom games you’d be all doomed out.. But no, Universal Pictures is in the works of producing a Doom movie based on a similar plot line as Doom 3 the game. It’s expected to open October 21, 2005.

The movie starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson follows a team battling demons on Mars, where a research lab has discovered horrible secrets. In a clip from the unfinished movie, the camera closes in on an eye of a soldier and then “turns around” and begins watching the world and telling the tale from the soldier’s point of view… [Full Article]

    15,000 Jobs Lost At HP

The guillotine has dropped… As Dell CEO Michael Dell once predicted “Compaq is more then a mouthful to swallow, they are the downfall to this superpower”. HP is formally announcing Tuesday they will be cutting approximately 15,000 jobs. IT, sales and services will be among the areas particularly hit, although the sweeping cuts will be felt throughout the company, according to the source. The move to cut more than $1 billion a year in costs during the next two years marks one of the most significant initiatives Mark Hurd, HP’s chief executive, has launched since his arrival less than four months ago from NCR. This was actually perdicted almost 2 months ago although plans didn’t take course until now. One of the few rumors that have become a very evil reality..

    Who are you?

Tired of people judging you? With the pointing and the laughing.

Then why not be judge by a computer?

The Face Analyzer claims to be the only automated face reader in the world. Follow the instructions and upload a picture of yourself, and the software will give you points in 9 different categories. You will be ranked in Intelligence, Risk, Ambition, Gay Factor, Honor, Politeness, Income, Sociability, and Promiscuity. It will also tell you your heritage, southern European, Chinese, Korean, etc.

I would take the whole thing with a grain of salt though. I was able to get different results by changing my facial expressions.

Try uploading a picture of your friends, then taunt them when it shows low intelligence or high gay factor. I would, but I don’t have any friends.

Smiley The mood of bloggers was first saddness and shock beforing turning to sympathy right after the London bombings. And at the time of this righting cheerfulness is on the rise, and boredom is on the decline. No, I didn’t conduct a survey, I merely checked out Moodgraphers. IBM ends OS/2 Product Line

    OS2 Warp
OS/2 Warp, the red-headed stepchild of operating systems, has reached the end of it’s line. IBM has pulled the plug on OS/2 Warp and suggests current users switch to Linux. What’s amazing about this is, who knew anyone still used OS/2 Warp?

Now I was a Warp users back in 1995, before the release of Windows 95. The multi-tasking support was amazing and it was a far superior to Windows 95.

Sadly OS/2 never made much progress on the desktop. Thanks to the inability of IBM to market…well anything. They couldn’t sell water in the desert. (Lotus anyone?)

If IBM was smart they would earn themselves a little street cred and release OS/2 to the Open Source community. Which would be very useful for customers who wish to keep using OS/2 - all 2 of them. You can help the cause by signing the petition to request that IBM GPL some if not all of OS/2.

    TechTV Resurrection

Is Tech TV being ressurected? It surely seems so. With Leo Laporte starting up the ‘This Week In Tech‘ Podcast, Kevin Rose’s and Dan Huard’s ‘the broken‘ and ‘systm‘, Yoshi DeHerrera’s ‘From The Shadows‘, ‘Diggnation’, and ‘Command-N’ it just seems like this is the resurgence of Tech TV, but on the internet. These shows take advantage of BitTorrent and other programs like IPodderX to get their content around. These guys(and girls) seem to be quite content with keeping their stuff on the web, and that’s a great first step for the future of quality internet multimedia.

SomethingAwful On Attack Of The Show

SomethingAwful On Attack Of The Show

Surprisingly after somethingawful.com had previously bashed the dualing Kevins and Sarah on AOTS (Attack Of The Show), they somehow managed to find themselves being interviewed on todays episode of AOTS.

From the second David Thorpe, a writer from Somethingawful.com stepped on stage Kevin Pereira knew he was into trouble. When Kevin asked David Thorpe about his site, David Thorpe replied with “It’s a very bad site full of popup ads, flash animations and other crap you won’t want to see”. He then proceeded to go on and talk about his overinflated $80 a month forum charges and how the people that paid the fee were morons.. By this time you could see the sweat coming off Kevin Pereira’s forehead. It went on and on, bashing and bashing, Kevin couldn’t hide; such a disaster.

Now what I don’t get is at the very end of the interview David Thorpe corrects Kevin Pereira stating his URL is “http://www.somethingisawful.com/” which leads to a beautiful display of Anti-G4ism. :)

For those of you who were smart and missed today’s show but still want to check out this mass exodus of G4 flaming you can download it directly from SomethingAwfuls Site
